Legal Experience
Cindi Westwood's journey to becoming an attorney has been anything but conventional, and it's precisely this unique path that has forged her exceptional qualifications for Judge. Her diverse life and career experiences, coupled with an unwavering commitment to honesty, empathy, and integrity, have provided her with a depth of understanding and perspective that makes her the most qualified candidate to serve Montgomery County.
Cindi Westwood is no stranger to the realities faced within the Montgomery County Municipal Court, a place where lives intersect with the justice system. Her recent service as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Montgomery County Municipal Court, Western Division (March 2022 - September 2023) prosecuting cases in the Court for which she is now running for Judge, provided her with a firsthand look at these complexities. Currently, she brings her legal experience, integrity and empathy to the role of Acting Judge for Judge Cindi Heck in the Vandalia Municipal Court.
Cindi’s path to the legal profession wasn't a traditional one. In 1995, the heartbreaking death of a child, a story that resonated deeply with her as a young mother became a turning point. Witnessing the profound impact of the legal system, Cindi felt a calling to commit herself to helping others in the community and to work to protect those that couldn’t protect themselves. This deeply personal experience ignited an unwavering determination. Balancing motherhood, helping to support her electrician apprentice husband, babysitting and waiting tables to make ends meet, she embarked on a difficult journey; first earning her paralegal degree from Sinclair Community College, then a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Wright State University, and finally her law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2005.
Driven by a desire to make a difference, Cindi dedicated herself to gaining experience, working in criminal and OVI law before joining the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney (2006-2011). Her commitment to serving her community led her to establish her own practice (2012) and later contribute her skills to Rogers & Greenberg, LLP (until 2020) and Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP (2020-2021). Ultimately, her passion for collaboration and shared values led her to join Miller Walker & Brush, which officially became Miller Westwood & Brush, LLP in 2021. Cindi’s journey is a testament to the power of determination, empathy and a desire to give back to her community.
As an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Cindi worked closely with law enforcement and with victims of crime. As an attorney in private practice she worked with clients that faced criminal charges and clients dealing with civil matters. She also now serves as an Acting Judge for Vandalia Municipal Court, giving her yet another perspective of the justice system. Cindi’s life experiences coupled with her professional experiences make her uniquely qualified to be the next Montgomery County Municipal Court Judge.
Ohio Municipal Courts hear civil and criminal cases as well as traffic matters. The criminal cases that come before the court are misdemeanor offenses. The civil cases that may be heard in Municipal Courts are amounts in dispute of $15,000 or less, and small claims cases.
The Montgomery County Municipal Court is divided into two separate courthouses: the Eastern Division and the Western Division. The Eastern Division serves Riverside and Huber Heights. The Western Division serves Trotwood, Brookville, Clay Township, Jackson Township, Jefferson Township, Perry Township, New Lebanon, Phillipsburg, Farmersville, and Verona. If you live in one of these jurisdictions, you are eligible to vote for Cindi Westwood for Montgomery County Municipal Court Judge.
